Our race was 26.2 Miles, The Newport News One City Marathon was one for the books. Our relay team 2 Hot 2 Trot decided to participate in this race as part of our Annual reunion. All four of us dressed in matching tights, half zip shirts, and hats completed the race with no problem.
Each one of us passed the torch (well band) to each team member at 3 random exchange locations. All of us braved the cold and ran our assigned leg. We came and we conquered all 26.2 Miles. The weather warmed up during the race and the route was well marked and flat.
You could not MISS our bright yellow shirts. Everybody including all the Volunteers knew who we were. We were one of 28 relay teams represented. We KNOW we were the best dressed. Overall the race was well coordinated and organized. We had a good time and really enjoyed the race.
Before the Game Half hosted by @bishopevents was full of trails and turns at Accotink Park. The terrain was beautiful and the scenery was breathtaking. The weather was chilly and little breezy. Although the race was small the cheers and claps were loud. All the volunteers encouraged us to finish no matter how fast or slow.
The race route was on a hiking trail so there was lots of non- runners riding bikes, walking dogs and well hiking. I was happy to run the race and happy to finish it.
This race was nice. The weather was 66 degrees with a overcast. No sun. The humidity crept in around mile 6. The course was flat with lots of turns. There were a few rolling hills, but nothing I could not handle. The route took us through the historic district of Charleston. The houses were big beautiful row houses with landscaped yards. All the houses looked like each could grace the cover of Home and Gardens. The crowd support was awesome.
The streets were filled with people cheering and holding colorful humorous signs. DJs, local bands, and high school students lined the streets and encouraged runners as we ran by. I finished the 13.1 mile race in 2 hours and 40 minutes. We finished the race and received our medals. All the finishers also received a congratulatory meal of Shrimps and Grits. This was my first time ever having shrimp and grits... I must say... it was delicious.
